Registration now open for the Summer 2015 Devised Production Intensive

Led by Ghost River Theatre co-Artistic Directors David van Belle and Eric Rose, the Devised Production Intensive is a longer, comprehensive, advanced program of study designed for established and emerging artists and educators.  Open to adventurous artists in all media (including theatre designers, dramaturges, writers, performers, dancers, visual artists, musicians, video artists), the intensive will explore the complexities and potentials of a guided, complete devised production process, from initial idea to public presentations, in three weeks of intensive, hands-on creation.

The intensive covers:

•  dramaturgy of devised work through a practical creation process

•  audience engagement theory and techniques

•  long-term strategies for collaboration and decision-making

•  workshops in marketing and grant writing, specifically tailored to the challenges of new work creation

•  the building of a national network of artists who are versed in a common process and interested in future collaborations

 

Intensive fee:  $1,250

 

Billets and financial support may be available. Early application is encouraged to enable Ghost River to support participants’ funding applications.

Instructors:

Eric Rose is an award winning director, creator, playwright, dramaturg, and educator. His passion for the creative process has inspired the diversity of his theatrical experience spanning: large scale contemporary and classical theatre, devising theatre, site-specific performance, performance creation, new play development, physical theatre and dance. Recent GRT credits: The Last Voyage of Donald CrowhurstTomorrow’s Child, ReverieThe Highest Step in the World, and ONE. Eric is honoured to be the Playwright in Residence at Alberta Theatre Projects, to be named to Avenue Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 class of 2012 and to have received the 2012 Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Emerging Artist Award for his body of work as a theatrical innovator.

David van Belle Born in Amsterdam and raised all over Canada, David van Belle is a Calgary-based director, actor, playwright and performance creator. He is currently Co-Artistic Director of Ghost River. David came to Calgary in 1999 to do his MFA in Directing, andspent seven years as part of the ensemble of One Yellow Rabbit. He is currently in the midst of co-writing Ghost River’s new creation, The Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst, with Ghost River Co-AD Eric Rose. David is also an independent theatre artist, having created such works as BUZZ JOB! The True Story of Cal Cavendish with Calgary’s Poet Laureate Kris Demeanor and The Invisible Project during a month-long residency at Calgary’s largest homeless shelter. David’s new play, Liberation Days, is part of Theatre Calgary’s 2014- 2015 season this year.
