How do we navigate the meaning of existence in a world that is increasingly absurd, irrational, and alienating?

About

An exploration of human existence and isolation in an absurd cardboard world.

GRT’s first collaboration with acclaimed bilingual performer-playwright-director Jon Lachlan Stewart, BOXES is inspired by the novel The Box Man, by Japanese author Kobo Abe, and the works of Franz Kafka. Embracing a shared fascination with object theatre and live animation, BOXES probes a fundamental human dilemma: how do we navigate the meaning of existence in a world that is increasingly absurd, irrational, and alienating?

In January 2020, we began devising the piece through a workshop process that culminated in an informal presentation at the West Village Theatre in Calgary, AB.
