Anticipation is building here at Ghost River Theatre as the world premiere of our compelling and stunning new production STRUCK approaches.

Based on the true story of GRT’s Artistic Director Eric Rose, who was struck by lightning as a young adult while camping in Ontario, the play follows his survival and free fall into atonement and search for self-knowledge. STRUCK is the culmination of years of processing how to bring this personal trauma to stage by one of Canada’s critically acclaimed theatre directors.

In signature Ghost River Theatre fashion, we have engaged an all-star team of designer-collaborators to create an original, mind-blowing experience reflective of Eric Rose’s highly theatrical aesthetic. Each designer-collaborator also has a history of working with Ghost River Theatre and Eric Rose, and collectively, the team has been able to support one another through a devising journey addressing topics of grief and trauma.

Robin Leveroos, the extraordinary puppets, set and properties designer of our last mega-hit GIANT, is coming in from Berlin for STRUCK; and we are thrilled to be working again with Anton DeGroot, the composer and sound designer of GIANT. Joining the team are lighting designer Kerem Çetinel, video/projection designer Wladimiro A. Woyno R., and cinematographer Matthew McKinney, all collaborators on GRT’s multimedia masterpiece The Last Voyage of Donald Crowhurst. Lighting and projection effects are key elements of STRUCK.

As preproduction has geared up, Eric, the designers, and the team at GRT have been tuning in at all hours this fall from Germany, Turkey, and across Canada. Meet the creative team behind STRUCK in our new Ghost River Theatre documentary filmed during the development workshop in January 2022.

We can’t wait to gather in person in January to finally bring this impossible story of our colleague Eric Rose to stage.

Tickets are pay what you can. GRT productions take years of investment and development and when they are finally staged, we want to minimize barriers and share our work with as many people as possible.
