A PALACE OF MAGPIES
A NEW MYTH ABOUT HOUSE AND HOME
Co-Created during the 2024 Ghost River Theatre National Devised Theatre Intensive
Public Presentations on June 20 and 21 at 7:30 PM at West Village Theatre, Calgary
An ensemble of 11 domestic and international artists have gathered at Ghost River Theatre and created a work-in-progress performance which centres movement, music, and theatrical design. This 30-minute piece decontructs the mythologies of home and its relationship with time. The performers weave together sound, shadow, and song in a collage of different perspectives of what home is.
Led by Ghost River Theatre’s Artistic Director Eric Rose and international performance designer and educator Snežana Pešić during GRT’s biennial National Devised Theatre Intensive, the cohort has interrogated the complexities and potentials of a guided, complete devised production process, from initial idea to public presentation, in 3 weeks of intensive hands-on-creation.
“It’s been exciting to see a group come together from such diverse backgrounds, to gel so quickly and dive into a new process that is generating exciting new work.” -Creative Collaborator Elise Tigges
“This has been a tremendously supportive artistic and personal environment that’s allowed us to bring an intimate and personal examination of the concept of home to the stage.” -Creative Collaborator Megan Brightwell
